Chess

Chess

Reported by Jackson & Angus
Today we are Interviewing Jacob & Thomas From Year 2. They meet every Friday to play chess during enrichment day.

Jacob started playing chess last year in year 1 with Mrs Greet and Miss Gatehouse. He enjoys playing chess and has a few tactics up his sleeve.  When Jackson played a game of chess with him he took out Jackson’s King and won.

Thomas started playing last year. He knows what a checkmate and a stalemate is & has some good tactics. He is quite good at playing chess and when he played against Jackson they had a draw. Thomas has some quite good techniques at tricking his opponent.
Wikipedia says ‘ it is believed that chess originated in India before the 6th century AD. Chess is a two - player strategy board game played on a chessboard. Casual chess games usually last 10 to 60 minutes, tournament games last anywhere from about 10 minutes  (fast chess)  to six hours or more.
The longest tournament chess game to be played ever was in 1989 and lasted 20 hours and 15 minutes to complete a drawn game .’

The Awesome Sausage Sizzle

The Awesome Sausage Sizzle

By Fran

At Lincoln primary school, we have been fundraising to raise money for choir, jump jam and other groups at the school. Today the year 8s and some parents ran a sausage sizzle.
The children got the sausage sizzle notices the week before. The sausages on offer were vegetarian, gluten free, and regular. There were also Juicies and Moosies being sold. After school the children ran out of their classrooms with a cheerful smile on their faces.

This Friday all the children got to school early so that they could get their orders written down on their hands. I ordered 1 sausage and 1 Moosie.

Time went fast and before you knew it, it was lunch time. As the lunch bell rang everyone rushed out of their classrooms so that they could be first in line to get a sausage.

2017 Swimming Sports

With beautiful clear, blue skies and light winds, today was the perfect day for swimming sports. There was plenty of excitement and competitive spirit in the air as the students competed for their whanau groups and a chance to represent our school in the zones. Races started with the width races and moved into the longer 1 and 2 length races. Students were encouraged to join the longest length race they could complete in each discipline with the winners of the 2 length races having a chance to go to the zones for further honours. There were many stand out performances from our 5/6 team. It was great to see so many giving their all, standing up tall and being proud of their efforts.

Beach Ed

This week we went on the first outing of our EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) program. Our first outing was to South New Brighton Beach to learn about beach safety. It was a beautiful, warm morning with a light breeze and plenty of sunshine. As we set off there was plenty of excitement, which made for an eventful bus journey. Once we arrived at the surf club, we were ferried upstairs to meet our lifeguards and start our program. Through the day we learnt about beach safety, sun safety, played some beach games and after lunch, were all able to play in the water. The waves were pretty large, but our brave parents were in there keeping us safe. Thank you to all the parents who took the time out to come with us and share a great day. Without your support, all these smiles wouldn't be possible. It was a really great day enjoyed by all.

Stepping Stones

We were lucky enough to get outside and play some team building games. This game is called stepping stones. The idea is to work together as a team to cross the river of larva. The first team to cross the river with all their mats wins. But you need to work together because if your team member falls in, everybody has to go back and start again.
