TORO PIKOPIKO PUPPETS PUPPET SHOW
By Shayna and Kai
On the 13th of June 30 students from syndicate three walked over to the Event Centre to witness a puppet show by Toro Pikopiko Puppets. The puppets were based on rock art done by Maori inhabitants in Opihi, Timaru. The puppet show was a re-telling of a maori legend (the journey of Pourakahua - the half bird half man, who had abnormal arm and leg length making him lonely and an outcast. During the legend pourakahua meets fishermen, hunters, dolphins, lizards, geckos and taniwha before finding a flock of eagles.

This is some of the rock art from Opihi which were included as
some of the puppets in the show.
During the show students from weedons and Lincoln were asked to help with the show and become junior puppeteers, during the show at the event centre Pourakahua traveled with his wings to a cave full with stinky bats and another cave with stinky glow worms, a group of hunters with dogs and a eagle family at the end to stay with.
Luckily Lincoln Primary were offered a workshop and were taught a few skills about puppeteering and were allowed to have a play with the puppets and make a mini show to share with the others students.
